marietta ohio is getting a public outdoor concrete skatepark built! the park should be open for business in the next 2 months. if you've been to marietta ohio the place has some history. native americans live in marietta for a long time.  the "mound" in the middle of the park is in homage to the mounds found around marietta. oh yeh, matt, aaron and zach will be hooking up a real will be hooking up a real nice pool to skate!

 

This skatepark is under construction right now.  Check back for pics and opening day!

ABC contacted Suburban rails to build a mini ramp for one of their Extreme Makeover Home Edition episodes. The show will Air Early August 2005.

the show does really good stuff for families. all of the contractors you see in the show have donated their skills (except the paid celebs). additionally, all the materials are donated.

the factory skateboard park (owned by delicious skateshop) in wake forest north carolina will be getting a new private indoor wood skatepark (picture above). the outdoor skatepark will be made of concrete and features hubba's, ledges, gaps, step-ups, rails, etc... it'll be a super fun concrete skate street plaza! the outdoor section will also feature a kidney bowl! construction on the outdoor section has already begun. construction of the indoor park will begin may 13th.

The City of Lawrenceburg has made a decision that bikes will not be allowed in the park. We had zero influence on this decision.

the plex indoor sports park is going to be super fun! i wish i lived down in columbia, sc so i could session this new indoor skatepark with the local rippers.

i received an email from an architect today about "skate proofing" a new office building.


I have an odd question, maybe not odd but one I wouldn’t think you would get asked very often but I figured you might know the best answer.  I am a designer in Albuquerque NM and am currently working on an office building redesign.  We have come up with a plan that has several planters and stair rails, a basic haven for boarders.  (little background:  I don’t skate, a lot of my friends do, both my brothers have been for years.  Through school I learned that the best way to design a skateboard proof site is to have an encouraging design that can handle the activity without the deterioration.)  Unfortunately the owners aren’t in the same state of mind.  They would like a skateboard proof site that discourages the activity all together.  So to my question.  We are looking for some non conventional methods of “skateboard proofing” our design.  If you have any suggestions at to where I can search for information I would appreciate it.  Thank you for your time.    

 
thanks for your interest _______. unfortunately i can't help you with this subject. i'm not trying to be too harsh, but i call "skateboard proofing" nazi skateboard architecture and design. good luck in your endeavors - and hopefully you can persuade your mentors not to take this approach. a unique solution would be to make one out of the way section of the design skateboard friendly... then you can make everything else "skate proof".

Westerville Skatepark Wins Design Award

I am pleased to inform you that the project submitted on your behalf, Alum Creek Park South Skateboard Park Facility  has been granted a 2004 Award for Excellence in the category of Best Use of Concrete in a Public Park or Recreational Setting .

Sean has been skating for 20+ years. Sean is the director of skateboarding at UC Berkeley's skateboarding youth program. The program has had incredible success since inception in 1999. Sean can assist with the development and implementation of a skateboarding curriculum for your public or private park. Similar to a swim instructor teaching you how to swim, Sean can teach your staff how to "teach" skateboarding.

"Beginners will learn skateboard mechanics and basic riding skills such as balance, carving, riding transitions, and dropping-in. Advanced skaters learn grinds, ollies, and airs, and have the chance to learn to drop in on bigger ramps, and learn flip tricks. The advanced level is designed for the skateboarder who has been riding for at least a year. Skaters will be assessed on the first day of the session and the lessons will be adapted to their ability."
