How Much Do I Spend To Build A Skatepark

This is a common question we get all the time. We're going to speak in general terms here. A good analogy for building a park is to compare it with purchasing a house. We won't consider the price of land or the building to house your park. Similar to purchasing a house, we'll focus on the design, materials and construction fees.

Let's say you could purchase a 2,000 square foot house anywhere within a range of $50,000 to $1,000,000. $50k being your bare bones rectangle house with lower end everything; lumber, insulation, fixtures, pipes, etc... on the other end of the spectrum you have a $1 million dollar home that was custom designed and built with attention to detail throughout the entire process.

Enough already, let's talk about skateparks. A good rule of thumb for skateparks is as follows.

COST
a 10,000 square foot park will range between $75,000 and $500,000. $75k for a "good" park and 1/2 million for a world class indoor skatepark. The 1/2 million dollar park would have every element you could imagine having in a park... dependent on the available building size.

Let's break it down, 10,000 Square Foot Wood Skatepark would run roughly between $8,000 to $25,000 per 1,000 square foot. it's easier to calculate in 1,000 square foot increments.

Size Sq/ftLowMidHigh
7,000$56,000$98,000$175,000
10,000$80,000$140,000$250,000

Size and Space
Get as large a building as you can afford! Your park will be packed as soon as you open the doors... We've built parks in as small a space as 3,500 square feet and have designed 250,000 square foot outdoor parks. For a modern day indoor park, you should look for a space larger than 8,500 square feet.

Surface
Other variables to consider. If you're going to allow BMX / bikes into your skatepark you will want to surface the park with Skatelite ramp surface. We are authorized distributors of Skatelite.

If you're not going to allow BMX and focus on Skateboards and Inline we would use cabinet grade birch veneer plywood to surface your ramps.

Overview
-overall park size: total square footage of your park. more specifically the total ramps in your park.
-obstacle size / diffictulty: the physical length, width and height of the obstacles as well as the difficulty in constructing bowled corners, hips and elbows require more labor
-surface material: here's a link that will help define available surface materials
