received this letter 2006.02.22:
As a long time skateboarder and advocate of skateboarding, I'm writing to request the removal of the dangerous paint on the Fairfield Skate Park! Last summer, while visiting my in-laws who live in Hamilton, I decided to see what the new park some of my wife's friends told me about had to offer. One word can describe my reaction to what I saw, "shock." Why cover a great park and make it dangerous to skateboarders and make the surface practically un-skatable? That, my friends, is truly ironic. Since then, I had pretty much written the park off as poor city planning and suggested friends who, like me, plan their entire vacations around visiting good skateparks (and spend many tourist dollars), write the Fairfield park off their plan-books.

Only recently, after meeting with Suburban Rails on an unrelated matter, did I discover that the blinding, slippery paint can be removed and it is quite possible for the park to realize its full potential. Please remove the paint for the sake of the skaters and all the hard work which was poured, quite literally, into this beautifully designed park.

Sincerely,
Leonard Poage
